Once admitted to the Ethical AI Portfolio Program, students will complete four courses (at least 12 credit hours and no more than 15 credit hours), at least two of which must be core courses selected from the Core Courses list. No more than two of the four courses can be from the same department. Completion of the portfolio program is independent of the requirements of the degree program in the student’s home department. However, courses in the major or supporting areas of work related to Ethical AI may be counted towards the completion of the portfolio program with approval of the Portfolio Steering Committee.
Each student’s portfolio coursework will include at least 9 credit hours of content coursework and no more than one Independent Study or Internship course. In addition, at least two portfolio courses will be taken outside of each student’s primary degree major.
Additional requirements for completion of the Ethical AI Portfolio Program are summarized below. Students will:
- Maintain a 3.0 GPA at all times during the program, both overall and within courses in the portfolio
- Participate in at least two semesters of a Research Seminar Series
- Complete a capstone experience resulting in a research report, paper, thesis, or dissertation within the area of ethical AI. This research product can also be used to satisfy degree requirements as well in their degree program. A thesis, report, dissertation in a student’s primary field of study that relates to the topic of Ethical AI will satisfy the portfolio program’s capstone requirement
- Submit their research findings for publication in peer-reviewed venues and approved by their advisor, such as journals, conference, and workshop proceedings related to ethical AI.
